Just in case some of our jargon makes no sense!

 

Afro Kinky: A finish where the hair has been completely texturised to resemble afro hair in a totally natural state, before it has been blow-dried. Ideal for those with natural hair who do not want to blow-dry or press their own hair on top.  To match this finish, just wet your own hair at the front at night, braid it when wet, let it dry naturally, undo the braid/s in the morning, and you should have a kink or curl in your own hair that will last until you wash your hair again.  Use a hair mascara for the colour, they are quick and easy to apply and brush or wash out simply.

 

Afro Straight: Our own exclusive finish where texturised / more-natural / afro-feeling hair is featured on the top from the roots, but the tips are dead-straight and Silky. Designed to match blow-dried natural afro hair, so ideal for those with natural hair who do not want to heat-press their own hair on top.

 

Afro Yaki: Our own exclusive finish that is an extremely texturised Yaki finish, deliberately to provide a more-natural look and feel.  Designed to match blow-dried natural afro hair, so ideal for those with natural hair who do not want to heat-press their own hair on top.

 

Colours: ‘/H’ colours indicate a mixture of two or more colours where the first colour is main colour and the other colours are featured in smaller amounts as highlights.  So a ‘1B/27H’ would feature mostly colour 1B with some colour 27 as highlights.  The ‘T/’ colours indicate a mixture of two or more colours where the first colour is more prominent at the top, and the other colour is are more prominent at the tips.  So a ‘T1B/33’ product would feature colour 1B and 27 throughout but colour 1B would dominate at the top and colour 33 would dominate at the tips.  The ‘TT/’ colours indicate a mixture of two or more colours where the first colour appears only at the top, and the other colour appears only at the tips. So ‘TT/220’ would feature colour 1B at the top and colour 220 at the tips.  For our current colours click here to view our colour chart.

 

Corn row (cane roll): Corn rows are basically braids or plaits that appear along the scalp rather than off it, and the corn rowing technique is also known as ‘cane rolling’ or ‘plaiting down’.

 

Extensions: Extensions involve the addition of false hair to your own hair at the roots to provide your own hair with extra length, body or a colour.  Your own hair is parted into sections, and then the false hair is attached to these sections in a number of ways.  The most popular methods are twisting, braiding or plaiting, ‘bonding’ and ‘micro bonding (gluing) or wrapping (using thread).

Human hair: Human hair is undisputedly the best quality hair available and for this reason it commands higher prices than synthetic hair.  It is durable, malleable and long lasting, and can be styled using heated products as directed.  With regards to maintaining a style however, human hair displays all the drawbacks of real hair.  For instance it shrinks and reverts to its original style and texture in damp and wet conditions, and strong winds can blow out temporary curls.  If you are looking for realism, require a long lasting hair product and have the time to style your hair, then opt for human hair.

Limited-edition: We like to try new styles and / or hair types and / or finishes and / or colors and / or lengths, but have to be careful about expanding our offering to an unmanageable size.  So ‘limited-edition’ items and versions are only available whilst stocks last.

 

Natural hair: Natural afro hair is also referred to as ‘virgin hair’ and describes afro hair that has not been heat or chemically altered or processed in anyway (it has not been permed (permanently relaxed), relaxed, coloured, tinted or dyed).

Relaxed hair: Afro hair that has been chemically processed to make it bone-straight. Also referred to as ‘permed hair’, which is actually an abbreviation for ‘permanent straightening’ and has nothing to do with curly perms.

​

Remy (or Remi) hair: Top quality natural human hair that is has been gathered in a special way so that all the follicles lie in the same direction, making it tangle-resistant and shed-resistant. Worth the investment.

Silky Crimped: Our exclusive finish that features silky hair, but has been crimped to provide a wavy and more-natural look and feel. Ideal for those with natural hair who do not want to press their own hair on top.  To match this finish, just use a crimper.  Or, if you want to avoid heat, then wet your own hair at the frontatnight, braid it when wet, let it dry naturally, undo the braids in the morning, and you should have a kink or curl in your own hair that will last until you wash your hair again.  Use a hair mascara for the colour, they are quick and easy to apply and brush or wash out simply.

Silky: Our 'silky' finish is bone-straight and fine and designed to match chemically-straightened (relaxed or permed) afro hair and other types of straight hair (e.g. Caucasian hair, dual-ethnicity hair, etc.).

 

Straightened hair: Afro hair that has either been relaxed or permed using chemicals to get it bone-straight.  Or any type of hair that has been temporarily straightened using heat, with the use of a flat iron (also known as a ‘ceramic press’ or ‘ceramic straightener’ or ‘hair press’ or ‘GHD’), or a hotcomb.

 

Synthetic hair: Synthetic hair (also known as acrylic hair) is made from man-made fibres, is significantly less durable and malleable than human hair but does not react adversely to wind displacement.  Heat cannot be applied and the fibres do not absorb water.  These are not necessarily drawbacks though because it means that styles are not permanently affected by damp or wet conditions and curls snap back into place after exposure to strong winds.  If you are looking for a ready-made style (akin to wearing a hat) and do not want to spend any time whatsoever on styling, then opt for synthetic hair.

Weaves / weave ons: When wefts or tracks of false hair are ‘weaved’ (sewn), or ‘bonded’ (glued) onto the wearer’s own hair.

 

Yaki: Our 'yaki' finish (not to be confused with Yak hair) has been chemically treated in order to achieve its unique finish. It is deliberately texturised to provide a close match straightened (heat-pressed / hot-combed, and relaxed / permed) afro hair.

Yaki-Silky (also known as 'Yaki 1'): This finish is 'slightly texturised' and designed to match chemically-straightened (relaxed or permed) afro hair. Ideal for those with chemically-relaxed or permed afro hair that looks quite straight; or dual-ethnicity hair.
